Welcome to CALI

Tomorrow at this time I will be in Venice, Cali hanging out with my BFF Squish and it will be oh-so-wonderful. We started a tradtion a few years ago where we decided that we would go on a trip... like a real, get on an airplane, have a great time trip. Soooooooooo tomorrow at 7am mountain time we will board a large plane and peace out for 6 days. I am thrilled beyond measure. I get to see my dear friends in LA which to me is the most exciting part. There lives in the big city will be shared with me for the first time. Heres my thought about life, if people mean something to you, you need to do whatever it takes to keep that friendship alive. Sincerely SOOOOOOO EXCITED

less than 60 hours..

I believe that people are only a plane ride away and if they are worth it to you, you make the effort for them

In this case one of my besties, Nate G. needed someone to move him home from the big VAN CITY, and when he asked me to, there was no hesitation. He means that much to me. Sooooo... my friend Sauve and I packed as little as we could and headed out on Friday night at 5 in Florence (yes.. my car has a name).. Drove through the night and arrived at 5:30 am Vancouver time. We are troopers, I was impressed.

You see Nate has been a part of my life for almost 5 years. He has never wavered, and I have learned that time and distance only changes things if you allow it to. Soooooooo... hold on to those who mean something to you...send postcards.. have skype dates... get on a flippin plane and quit using excuses. Life is short, live it up.
He lived on the Downtown Eastside in which I have been too, many a time, but every time I go there is something gripping about it, there is a part of my heart that will always be there and to be frank, I will miss spending time down there when I know go to Van. There are so many stories, so many beautiful faces that need to be loved, and all I want to do is help them.

After getting a few hours of sleep we traipsed around the city trying to find bungee cords. You see, I have an SUV, which is a slight step up from the sunfire I once had, but even still Nate has accumulated lots of treasures since embarking on this big city adventure a year and a half ago, Needless to say, Flo's roof became prime packing area. 46 bungee cords and three tarp straps, and a tarp later, she was ready to go.

We spent the afternoon on Granville Island having fish and chips, and JJ Bean, perusing through the market, getting lost in time. From there we went back to Jackson and Cordova and watched the timeless classic MY GIRL, whilst relaxing. After spending some much needed time chilling, we went on to a restaurant called FOUNDATION. Now for me, a red-meat eating country girl from Alberta, going to a vegetarian restaurant concerned me. IT WAS SOME OF THE BEST FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!!! Not to mention it was earth hour, so our dinner soon turned into a candlelit affair with our dear friend from Leduc who is out in Van perusing her dreams.

Our night ended with visiting some of Nate's friends who live in the Balmoral. The concept of their lives is rad. They are bible college students who live where they are reaching out. Gutsy, I know. That was my first impression. They are amazing. They share their rooms with cockroaches, and have the kindest hearts. It felt like I had known them for years, when indeed it was about a half hour. After shedding some tears and leaving that place behind we went back to 248 Jackson Ave to spend what will probably be our last night ever there.

We had every intention of getting up at 5 am to leave the city that has stolen my heart, but that soon turned into 7:30. I guess we needed some sleep, I can’t imagine why. Then we started off on our long adventure back to Alberta, sunny, warm Alberta. There were some minor pit stops due to tarp straps and bungee cords flying about but after leaving Chilliwack we had it under control. We arrived home around 11:30 pm and unpacked.

MY BESTIE IS HOME!!!! Not for long I’m sure though, but this is what I have realized, it takes work and effort to keep close with those who go out on adventures, but it is so worth it, things change if you allow them to.

I love that boy NATE G for he is one of the best friends I have ever had
